These depictions remain to be effective particularly in portraying the context of the story and advancing important themes. Analyzing the piece, one of the themes that stood out in the story corresponds to reality of trust and how it is evident with the action of Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones. Though she has been victimized by Roger for attempting to steal, she completely trusts the culprit and even brings him to her home Hughes 1.

Based from the piece, Hughes is able to create a personality that recognizes the personality of Roger as not just a thief but rather as an individual who is misguided and needs to be given an opportunity to enjoy the fine things in life. It is through this reason that the protagonist sought to trust the boy completely and provide Roger an opportunity for redemption. Upon closer examination, the story also promotes dignity and freedom, especially to Roger. This can clearly be seen with the effort taken by Mrs.

Luella Bates Washington Jones to help the boy who tried to steal from him. She wanted to communicate with Roger of who she is. Likewise, the offer for cleanliness and food also promotes the level of dignity as Roger is subjected to human compassion and sympathy despite his actions Suttor 1. Even if society dictates that the actions of Roger are treated with disdain, the woman still chose to understand his case beyond the offense he has committed.

Arguably, this demonstrates the freedom of the woman and highlights that amidst the labels and norms, the choice still remains to be with the individual. Based on these themes, the lesson imparted by Hughes story reflects the values and benevolence of Mrs. She does not scream with nervousness and waits for help for a man who might pass by like other women would do. Instead, she chooses to protect herself.

However, no matter how tough and strong Mrs. Jones is, she still maintains a characteristic of traditional feminism which is a traditional role of women that they are just servants and moral supporters.

From the story, after she takes Roger with her to her home, she treat him very well by giving him a clean towel for him to watch his face, preparing a meal for him to eat even though Roger is a stranger who tries to snatch her purse in the first time they met.

Jones also doses an important job of women as a moral supporter by sharing her own experience with Roger in order to give him an indirect moral lesson. The other theory of literary criticism which can be applied in this story is psychoanalysis. According to the story, once when Mrs. Jones was young, she has done something bad in order to get what she wanted. So, when she becomes elder and accidentally meets Roger, a skinny black boy, who tries to snatch her purse and she found out later that he did it because he wanted money to buy a pair of shoes he could not afford, it seems to her that she is watching a circle of life.

Roger is not someone else but herself when she was a kid; a kid who has a tough childhood; a poor kid who just wants something but never been taught what is right or wrong. Now, she sees a chance to fix the problem in her mind; a chance to solve the guilt that has always haunted her, so she gives Roger a chance by forgiving him which mean the guilt in her heart finally gets fixed too.

Thus, in my opinion, this is one of the masterpieces of Langston Hughes that everyone should not miss. Theme for English B by Langston Hughes dramatizes the conflict between physical exterior and psychological reality. It embodies the psychological trauma of African Americans during the first half of 19th century and their struggle for egalitarianism. It is very difficult to desire things in life and not be able to afford them. Regardless of how wealthy a person is, there is usually something that is out of reach.

Through this poem, the horror and needless destruction that such therapy implicates is conveyed very impressively. In the first lines, Ted Hughes Most people have expectations of how something is going to turn out.

When things do not turn out the way, we want them to turn out; the feeling of disappointment takes over. That is a coincidence when I read "Salvation" written by Langston Hughes because I run into my feeling five years ago, not in the same situation with him, but not so many differences Ted Hughes is a renowned, restrained poet for his ability to be intricate, and his concealment of emotion in insignificant forms of life.

In the poem, Thistles, Hughes personalizes Thistles; such trivial plant, to successfully evoke the lives of human beings, while emphasizing nature's dominance over men.

The poem also deals with the idea of history being repeated in a cycle, the dead being "resurrected" Sorry, but copying text is forbidden on this website. If you need this or any other sample, we can send it to you via email.
